health promotion

2021 - ongoing

In partnership with Laif FM, Living Child has developed a health promotion radio programme and social media page, called ‘Helti Femeli.‘ Our Health Promotions Officer, Naomi, has recorded two mini-series about family planning and nutrition.

A big thank you to our friends at Laif FM, who continue to support and report on what Living Child is doing in East Sepik Province, and to Health Communication Resources, who were an integral part of getting this programme up and running, and continue to be a significant support to us.

nutrition awareness campaign

2024 - 2025

Living Child has been running a Nutrition Awareness Campaign on behalf of the Food and Agriculture Organization’s EU-STREIT PNG Programme. So far, we have trained 43 health workers and educated over 2,000 community members about the importance of eating a balanced diet, with at least three meals a day, in a bid to lower the rates of child and maternal malnutrition.

This project will continue until June 2025, and our focus is to reach as many MSME owners and members of the EU-STREIT PNG Programme as possible with knowledge of how they can use the food they are growing and catching to keep their families healthy and strong.

humanitarian aid
responses

needs basis

Keeping families healthy and communities strong is part of our core business. This looks different in a crisis, and so we aim to adapt in these times too. In 2024, Living Child supported the Keram LLG through a period of prolonged flooding by organising mobile health patrols, distributing aid, surveying communities on their needs post-disaster and advocating with humanitarian partners and officials.

In July 2024, Living Child worked among a consortium of humanitarian partners to respond to violence in Angoram, which resulted in 92 households becoming displaced. We are very proud of our volunteers, Gina and John Tarat, who worked alongside UNICEF to complete surveys, run education sessions and set up child friendly spaces (CFS).
